Book Character Dress Up day - this Friday!
That time has come again - Book Character Dress Up day!
This Friday is the final day of our School Book Fair (in Room 2) and also
Book Character Dress Up Day, when you can come to school dressed as your favourite book character!

Learning about Technology
Today in Room 4 we learned that a robot has two things:
1) "functions" - what it does, and
2) "features" - what it looks like.
These robots from japan can dance (function). They are white and have round heads (features).
This robot can swim like a real fish (function). It is is blue and sparkly, with lips and big eyes. It has fins and a tail (features). We thought that if you put a robot in water it would die, but this one proved us wrong!
The first step in making our robots was choosing 1 or two friends to work with. Then we talked about what function our robot would have. Next we looked at our materials, and thought about what features it will take on:
Tomorrow we will begin construction our robot! Thank you to all the families who donated materials :-)

A very special assembly
These are the flags of the new nationalities who have joined our school.
Christchurch Symphony Orchestra came to play for us. They introduced the instruments, and let some students have a go at playing them.

Week One Highlights
Our first room 1 students have made a fantastic start!
We have met many people in our school community, including our principal and other children in team koru. We have also made playdough together, learnt lots of new games, started reading and writing. Way to go Room 1!

Welcome to Katie
From the Canterbury Teachers Training College we welcome into Room 11 Katie Shand here with us on her first teaching placement for 7 weeks.
"I'm very excited to be back living in the area I grew up in, after many years spent travelling and working overseas. I am currently studying towards my Graduate Diploma of Primary teaching at Canterbury University, and am loving my time with Amber and the lovely Room 11's!"
