Collaboration and Imagination!

Today the children from Rooms 1 and 3 learned about collaboration. We began by watching some Year 7 students perform a role play to demonstrate what collaboration 'is' and 'isn't'. We were able to identify the positive things we can say and do when working together as a team.

Next Mrs Wallace put us into teams of 2 or 3 and gave us our team challenge: to work collaboratively to build a house, for the little figurines, using a variety of building materials.

First we spent some time sharing our ideas with each other. We made sure each member of the group had a chance to speak and that we listened carefully to one another.

Each team then collected the materials they needed and set to work using their imaginations to create their houses. It was great to see the children collaborating as they worked together.

At the end of our session, we reflected on all the things we did in our teams that demonstrated collaboration: taking turns, sharing, saying encouraging words, listening to each other's ideas.

The final products were amazing and we were able to experience the positive power of collaboration while having great fun together. I wonder in what other ways we can use our collaborative skills?
